I’ve decided to expand the lasik blog somewhat to include areas beyond New York. Here’s something I found recently…
Check out this informative piece just released from the Mayo Clinic designed to help people decide if LASIK is right for them.

LASIK surgery: Is it right for you?
LASIK surgery makes it possible to reduce or eliminate your need for corrective lenses. But for some, the surgery is too risky. Find out if that’s the case for you.
If you’re tired of wearing eyeglasses or contact lenses, you may be considering laser-assisted in-situ keratomileusis — more commonly known as LASIK surgery — an increasingly popular alternative to corrective lenses. LASIK surgery is one type of refractive eye surgery, during which an eye surgeon uses a laser to reshape your cornea and correct focusing problems in your eyes.  (Click here for full story.)

What’s new in the lasik industry? It seems as though there’s always far more than what I have time to write about…

When Mobile, Ala., surgeon Richard Duffey read an article in the mainstream press in which the relative of a LASIK patient with a poor outcome complained that “no ophthalmologists have LASIK done on their own eyes or their loved ones,” he became annoyed, since he knew that wasn’t the case. To help set the record straight, he used the latest survey of the members of the International Society of Refractive Surgery/American Academy of Ophthalmology to ask not only how many surgeons have had refractive surgery, but also how many of their family members have had the surgery, as well.
The results far outpaced refractive surgery’s penetration in the general population. (Click here to read the full article)

Denver, Colorado - Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback, John Elway, recently received LASIK eye surgery from Icon LASIK, Colorado’s leading LASIK vision correction provider. Since 1999, Icon LASIK has completed more than 65,000 LASIK/PRK procedures - more than any other LASIK provider throughout Colorado.

“As soon as I began considering laser correction, I knew Icon LASIK was the right choice for me,” says Elway, now a multi-business entrepreneur and community philanthropist. I’m a huge fan of outdoor activities and I love spending quality time with my family. I’m as busy now as I was when I was a pro athlete. So I can’t imagine my active lifestyle without the convenience of clear vision and I’m amazed with the results.”

Prior to his surgery, Elway received a free consultation. As with all patient’s free consultations, doctors determined which treatment option would be most effective for Elway’s needs.

“Icon LASIK is thrilled Mr. Elway chose our very experienced team for his LASIK treatment,” says Dr. Richard Anderson, O.D. “We understand the importance of clear vision to enjoy an active lifestyle, whether you’re a hall-of-famer, a weekend warrior, or you just need a quick, safe, affordable alternative to contacts and glasses.”
