FORT STEWART – Capt. Jon Gills used to be as blind as a bat.
Â
Contact lenses were nice, but his Army schedule wasn’t always convenient for the constant cycle of removing, rinsing, cleaning and reapplying.
Â
“Basically, because of training, it forces you to wear glasses,” Gills said.
While he might not have been wearing those awkward, military-issued “BCGs” – birth control glasses, a popular nickname for the thick faux tortoise frames the U.S. armed forces have issued over the years – the glasses were still enough of a hassle for the junior officer to seriously consider elective eye surgery to correct his vision.
On a related note, May Eye Care is giving away a free LASIK procedure to an active member of the Armed Forces. Click here to learn more or to nominated yourself, a friend or family member.
